Hypersonix opens Munich office

Australian aerospace firm Hypersonix Launch Systems today opened its first international office in Munich, the capital of the German state of Bavaria.

Hypersonix Managing Director David Waterhouse said Munich was an obvious strategic choice for the location of the company’s first international office.

“This is Germany’s ‘deep tech’ heartland and being located here will help us tap into it,” he said.

“We already have a strong relationship with the BOC/Linde Group who are our supplier of choice for green hydrogen.

“We will also have better access to some of the raw materials we need for our launch vehicle, such as high temperature ceramic matrix composites.”

Gudrun Weidmann, Director government agency “Invest in Bavaria” added: “We are pleased to see this new exciting company from Australia settling into Bavaria. This is a chance to further stimulate innovation dynamics between the two high-tech hubs Australia and Bavaria and set new lucrative impulses for both areas. We wish Hypersonix all the best for their new beginnings in Bavaria. “

Hypersonix is developing scramjet technology powered by green hydrogen to underpin a delivery system for small satellites to low earth orbit.

Around 50,000 small satellites will be deployed over the next decade in an emerging global market estimated to be worth around $19 billion by 2030.

The SPARTAN scramjet engine developed by Hypersonix will reach speeds five to ten times the speed of sound, with zero CO2 emissions.

“Green hydrogen can deliver thrust five times higher than any other rocket fuel and leaves no CO2 emissions behind, only water vapour,” Mr Waterhouse said.

Jörn Spurmann, CCO of Rocket Factory Augsburg said: “We would like to welcome Hypersonix to the growing new space economy in Germany. It is of great advantage to have partners in close vicinity. We look forward to support the Hypersonix story with our highly competitive launch service offer.”

Christoph von Spesshardt, CEO German Australian Chamber of Industry & Commerce added: “We are thrilled to see Hypersonix Launch Systems entering the German market. It is exciting to watch the commercialisation of their cutting-edge technology disrupting the High-Speed aviation and small satellite launch sectors. The green hydrogen market in Germany is of special importance as their scramjet engines are fuelled with green hydrogen and therefore not leaving any CO2 emissions in our precious atmosphere behind. We wish Hypersonix all the success in this new market and will support them in their ambitious goal ‘to change the way we fly for good’. “

“Would you want to go to space any other way?”

Hypersonix Launch Systems (‘Hypersonix’) is an Australian aerospace engineering company focused on scramjets and hypersonic vehicles. Last year, Hypersonix received an Accelerating Commercialisation Grant from the Australian Federal Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources. Hypersonix is working with Boeing on the design of a hypersonic vehicle powered by the Hypersonix SPARTAN scramjet engines and is also working with BOC/Linde Group on the supply of green hydrogen as fuel for the SPARTAN.
